Why do we place a constant while removing the sign of proportionality

Let's say you have A and B and after some research you found A is proportional to B. So you know when A increases B also increases but you can't say what exactly happen to B when you increase A that's where constant comes in….

A = kB

Here k indicates how much times B is of A
