Question

Why do we say that a plane mirror forms a virtual image of an object?

Open in App
Solution

When light rays from an object fall on a plane mirror, they get reflected from the mirror. After reflection, they never meet at any point in real but they appear to meet at some point. That's why the image formed by a plane mirror cannot be obtained on a screen. So, we say that the image formed by a plane mirror is always virtual in nature.
