Why do we see a rainbow in the sky only after rainfall?

The reason we see a multitude of beautiful colours in the sky is because of the sun rays reflecting through the raindrops at different angles and splitting into different colours. One of the most important pre-requisites for rainbow formation is presence of water droplets in atmosphere which happens only after rainfall. Water droplets remain suspended in the atmosphere for some time after the rainfall.
