Question

Why do wrinkles appear on the skin with growing age?

Open in App
Solution

Wrinkles appear on the skin with growing age:

  1. Dermis loses both collagen and elastin, hence skin gets thinner and has trouble getting enough moisture to the epidermis.
  2. The fat in the subcutaneous layer that gives skin a plumpy appearance also begins to degenerate, then the epidermis starts to sag and form wrinkles.
