Question

Why do you consider RBC as living cell though it lacks nucleus?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Mammalian RBCs lack a nucleus which is an adaptation to carry more haemoglobin and therefore helps in the transportation of gases.
  2. The cells maintain their biconcave shape to carry more oxygen.
  3. The oxygen molecule gets oxidized to produce energy which is required by the cell to perform various metabolic activities. Hence, erythrocytes
    are considered as living cells.
