Question

Why do you think the zygote is dormant for sometime in a fertilised ovule?

Open in App
Solution

Double fertilization leads to the formation of the zygote and primary endosperm nucleus simultaneously. The triploid primary endosperm nucleus divides to form large nutritive endosperm which serves as the source of nutrition for developing an embryo. To ensure the presence of nutritive endosperm, zygote remains dormant for some time.
