Question

Why does a blacksmith use a heavier hammer than a goldsmith?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Blacksmith deals with hard metals like iron, and steel and for these metals, a large force is required to break them.
  2. We know that force is directly proportional to the mass.
  3. So heavy hammer is used, so that a large force can be produced to easily break and mould hard metals.
  4. Goldsmith deals with soft metals like gold, and silver and for these metals, a small force is required to break them.
  5. So light hammer is used to produce the required force to easily break and mould soft metals.
