Question

Why does a current-carrying conductor experiences a force when placed in a magnetic field.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: What is the current-carrying conductor.

The current-carrying conductors are those conductors which can produce a magnetic field around them.

Step 2: Reason for Experiencing the Force.

When a current-carrying conductor is put in a magnetic field, the field interacts with the magnetic field produced by the moving charges in the wire, causing the wire to experience a force. The current-carrying conductor produces its magnetic field. The external magnetic field interacts with this. There will be attraction and repulsion between two magnetic fields when they interact. Due to this, the conductor feels a force.
