Question

Why does a gun recoil backwards when fired? Explain.

Open in App
Solution

  1. When the bullet is fired from a gun the gun gives a kick in the backward direction.
  2. The reason behind is the force exerted on the bullet, known as a reaction.
  3. Since the mass of gun is large than the mass of a bullet, so the gun recoil with a velocity much lesser than the velocity with which the bullet moves forward.
