Question

Why does a magnet attracts only iron , cobalt , nickel and steel ? Why not other non - magnetic material ?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student Materials that attract to magnets are ferromagnetic in nature. In such materials there is an excess of unpaired or naked electrons which act as tiny magnets having their very own north and south poles. Now, when ferromagnetic materials such as iron. cobalt are placed in magnetic fields they align themselves to its direction and thus are attracted to the magnet. Most other materials do not possess such a property. Regards
