Question

Why does a newly made quilt feel much warmer than an old quilt?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A new quilt is warmer because the air which is trapped inside the cotton clothing acts as an insulator.
  2. That is air is a bad conductor of heat and does not allow the transfer of heat.
  3. However, when the quilt gets older, the air spacing of the cotton gets compressed. It no longer remains a good insulator.

Hence, the person does not feel warm.
