Question

Why does a paper catch fire but not lens when sunlight is passed through it?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student ,

The paper catches the rays of the sunlight unlike the lens which is transparent and allows the rays to pass. So, the rays are focused over the sheet of paper and the heat builds up which causes the sheet to catch fire.
