Open in App
Solution

Alleles

  1. An allele is a variation in the type of a phenotype.
  2. A few have a wide range of structures, which are situated at a similar position, or hereditary locus, on a chromosome.
  3. Humans are called diploid organisms since they have two alleles at each hereditary locus, with one allele acquired from each parent.
  4. Each set of alleles addresses the genotype of a particular phenotype.

Why do we have two alleles?

  1. An allele is an alternate form of a gene.
  2. We get two copies of a gene, one from the mother and one from the father inherited in the genome of an individual.
  3. Therefore, one only has two alleles.
