Why does a short circuit damage electro wiring and devices connected to it?

Simply,

A common type of short circuit occurs when the positive and negative terminals of a battery are connected with a low-resistance conductor, like a wire.So overloaded wires will also get overheat.This cause damage to the wire's insulation and starting a fire.
