Question

Why does all the water of the earth not get evaporated during hot summer days ?

Open in App
Solution

  • All the water of earth cannot be evaporated because the earth has two hemispheres(north/south) if it is summer in one hemisphere of earth& it is winter in another. Thus when water bodies are getting evaporated in one hemisphere another is storing water.
  • Also, the effect of evaporation of water is counteracted by rain elsewhere on the globe. For the oceans, this leads to a stable water level.
  • In some places when it is hot and dry, in another place maybe it is raining. Thus most of the time the amount of water evaporated is compensated back to the earth's surface by the varied climatic condition
  • Water has a high specific heat of vaporization. so, the summer heat is not sufficient to vapourize all volume of water from the earth's surface even though a large amount of water on the surface of the water bodies gets evaporated and it will come back to earth as precipitation in the form of rain, snowfall, etc.
