Question

Why does an arrow shoot forward when the stretched string of the bow is released?

Open in App
Solution

When the string of the bow is stretched by doing some work it stores potential energy. If we release the bow from stretched string this potential energy is converted into kinetic energy of the bow. This is the reason an arrow shoots forward when the stretched string of the bow is released.
