Solution

Each point: 1 Mark

1. Our body needs energy for all activities. While doing heavy exercises like running, there is more demand of energy to perform those activities.
2. Hence more oxygen is required to meet extra energy demand.
3. Therefore an athlete breathes faster and deeper than usual after finishing the race.
4. Also during running, due to lack of oxygen, some muscles may respire anaerobically and form lactic acid.
5. Extra oxygen is also required to burn this lactic acid into carbon dioxide.
