Question

Why does bleeding often occur at high altitudes?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The pressure exerted by the atmosphere on the earth is known as atmospheric pressure.
  2. With an increase in altitude, atmospheric pressure decreases.
  3. At high altitudes the atmospheric pressure is low, but the pressure of blood inside the body remains same.
  4. Thus, the pressure inside the body is higher as compared to the outside which causes the nose to bleed.

Hence, bleeding often occur at high altitudes.
