Question

Why does common salt become moist in rainy season?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student

Common Salt (NaCl) has some impurities e.g., MgCl2. Magnesium chloride is deliquescent.
So, on exposure to air, especially during rainy season, it absorbs moisture and become moist.
However, NaCl is not deliquescent. Moist nature of common salt is only due to MgCl2 present as an impurity.
