Question
Why does compound epithelium have a limited role in absorption and secretion?
Open in App
Solution
Compound epithelium:
The compound epithelium has a limited function in secretion and absorption since it is made up of multiple layers (multi-layered) of cells.
Their primary purpose is to protect against mechanical and chemical stressors.
Given the arrangement of more than one layer, it is clear from the term "multilayered" that the tissue cannot absorb or secrete.
Therefore, the tissue can only protect itself from any chemical or mechanical stress.
As a result, it only plays a small part in secretion and absorption.
