Question

why does conductivity of a solution decrease with dilution?

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,

The conductivity of a solution is depends upon the number of ions in a unit volume of the solution. On dilution the number of ions that carry charge in a solution remains the same but the volume of the solution increases in other words the number of ions per unit volume decreases, therefore conductivity of the solution also decreases. Hence with dilution the conductivity decreases.
