why does dry litmus paper not show colour change with solution of dry HCL in dry toluene

Dear student,

Solution of dry HCl in dry toluene is not acidic, therefore the colour of blue litmus do not change. As, the HCl do not dissociate and give H⁺ ions in toluene.
Toluene is a covalent and a non-polar compound, is not able to pull out H⁺ ion from HCl.
