Question

Why does electroplating happens to the metal connected with the negative terminal ?

Solution

we connect the negative terminal to the item to be electroplated. Metallic ions (positivity charged “cations”) in the solution are attracted to the cathode (negative electrode), where they combine with electrons to form metal atoms. As a result metal connected with negative terminal is electroplated with metal ios in the solution.

At the anode (positive electrode) metallic atoms are stripped of some electrons, then dissolving into solution as ions. This is why the anode is frequently referred to as the sacrificial electrode.
