Why does ice at 00C have a better cooling effect than water at 00C?
As ice absorbs extra amount of heat equivalent to latent heat of fusion which water already possesses
Water at 0oC possesses latent heat which Ice at 0oC does not. Ice on melting absorbs Latent heat which water at 0oC does not. Ice has a large value of latent heat [SLHF = 336Jg-1] Thus ice absorbs a large amount of heat on melting from the surroundings & hence is a better cooling agent.
