Why does it happens?
(a) A ship dips to a larger depth in fresh water as compared to marine water.

Marine water is denser than fresh water so for a given volume of water displaced the upthrust on the ship applied by
it more than the upthrust by fresh water so to balance the weight the ship displaces more fresh water and less marine water.
