Solution
The RBC′s have 120 days of lifespan. Once they die, the RBCs are taken away be WBCs by means of phagocytosis. During this process, the iron-containing pigment haemoglobin gets converted into bilirubin which is a yellow-coloured pigment. This goes into bile secreted by liver and passed out through faeces or urine.
When excess of RBCs are damaged resulting in the excess production of bilirubin, it causes disfunctioning of liver. The excess production of this pigment imparts yellow colour to skin, eyes, nails, etc.
