Question

Why does moon have very cold and very hot temperature variations eg, from 190oC to 110oC even though it is at the same distance from the sun as the earth is?

Solution

Temperature on the Moon's surface fluctuate dramatically from blistering heat 100C to frigid cold during the night -173C. With no atmosphere there is no wind.Moon has very tenuous or negligible atmosphere and the lunar gases are easily lost to the atmosphere because of Moon's low gravity light atoms such as helium receive enough energy from solar heating so that they escape in just a few hours.
