Question

Why does not silver evolve hydrogen on reacting with dilute sulphuric acid?

Open in App
Solution

Silver is less reactive than hydrogen and put underneath hydrogen within the reactivity arrangement. Metals that are less receptive than hydrogen cannot displace hydrogen from acid.

Therefore, silver does not evolve hydrogen gas on reacting with dilute sulphuric acid and dilute hydrochloric acid.
