Question

Why does p-dichlorobenzene have a higher m.p than its o- and m- isomers?

Open in App
Solution

The para isomer has the symmetrical structure due to which its molecules are compactly packed in the crystal lattice. Hence it becomes difficult to separate these molecules which results in the higher melting point as compared to ortho and meta isomers.
