Why does photosynthesis only occur in plants?

Open in App
Solution

Photosynthesis:

  1. Photosynthesis is a process by which autotrophs make their own food using sunlight.
  2. Plants and other organisms which have the pigment chlorophyll are able to harness this energy and therefore make glucose.
  3. The basic necessities of photosynthesis include-
  • Sunlight
  • Water
  • Chlorophyll
  • Carbon dioxide

4. Plants fulfil all these requirements, hence photosynthesis is seen in plants.

5. Additionally, plants perform photosynthesis as they need the energy to grow and for cellular respiration, which is derived from this process.

6.They are autotrophs and manufacture their own food.
