Question

Why does pressure increase the freezing point?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The freezing point is defined as the temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid.
  2. If the pressure is increased, the liquid particles begin moving towards each other and hence molecular interactions will increase.
  3. With the increase in molecular interactions, there will be a force of attraction between the liquid particles.
  4. So, the liquid particles will easily freeze.
  5. Hence, the freezing point will increase.
