Dear student,
Reproductive isolation- It is the failure of members of one population to breed with members of another population because of innate and genetic factors.
Small populations may become isolated at the edge of the geographic distribution of a species. Those peripheral populations are often genetically different from the primary population because they are adapted to a certain diversity of environments.
The further genetic changes would be fostered by genetic drift, natural selection, and limited gene flow from the parent population. Such accumulated genetic differences can, in time, lead to reproductive isolation.
