Question

why does smaller size ion give more hydration energy?

Open in App
Solution

If the size of the ion is less, the molecule has more water of crystallisation that is it accommodate more water, so its hydration energy is more. This small size molecules have less lattice energy. Hydration energy exceeds the lattice energy then the dissolution of ionic compound occur. Ex., LiCl
