Question

Why does static friction require highest amount of force compared to rolling or sliding friction

Open in App
Solution

Static friction is obviously greater because sliding friction acts when an object is moving and during motion, the irregularities in the two surfaces in contact do not get enough time to interlock with each other.

However, static friction is due to the virtue of a body’s rest, and during that time the irregularities get enough time to interlock, thus increasing the frictional force.
