Open in App
Solution

To know the answer we need to go back in time.
Before mechanical clocks were invented the time tracking was done by use of sundial. In northern hemisphere the sun rises in south east direction so in the morning the shadow is casted to north west. As sun gradually move to west at midday it castes shadow in north. Further at the sun set the dial shadow moves to north east. As people were used of this motion of dial they preferred to have same when they made mechanical watches.
As like most of the innovations clock was also invented in north the clockwise motion is like the way we know it now otherwise if invented in south it may have been reverse.
