Why does the filament of a bulb fuse and break even if there is no oxygen to burn it?

The filament fuse due to various reasons.an incandescent filament light bulb sometimes fails when the filament breaks - through shock or old-age, usually. Occasionally the broken filament short-circuits the supply connection, leading to a large (and dangerous) current surge. To mitigate the damage the supply lead-in has a narrow section which acts as a fuse, which blows on such a surge. In this case the phrase “the bulb is fused” is accurate!..The filament may also break to shaking of bulb...
