Question

Why does the fire go out if water is thrown on the burning wood?

Open in App
Solution

When water is thrown on burning wood, water absorbs all the heat produced in the form of latent heat and gets converted into water vapours. In this way, heat is not available to raise the temperature of the wood up to its ignition temperature. Hence, fire goes out on throwing the water on it.
