Question

Why does the principle of unity of command not hold good in an organisation using technique of functional foremanship?

Open in App
Solution

The principle of unity of command suggests that there should be one boss to whom the employee is answerable to. Whereas, in functional foremanship there are at least eight bosses under sub departments which are assigned to a single employee. This technique clearly violates the principle of unity of command as it is in contrast with what the principle says. Hence, an organisation cannot have both principle and the technique as it contradicts each other.
