Question

Why does the specific heat of gases increase with atomicity

Open in App
Solution

Atomicity depends on the molecular mass. Specific heat depends on the number of particles present in 1 kg of the substance as it depends on the mass. Specific heat = q /m x delta T.
As the mass increases, number of particles increases, in turn atomicity increases. Thus specific heat increases with atomicity.
