Why does the temperature remain constant during the boiling of water even though heat is supplied continuously?
1. The temperature of a substance remains constant during boiling point of water because changing the state of the substance by overcoming the forces of attraction between the particles.
2. This heat energy absorbed without showing any rise in temperature is given the name–latent heat of fusion or latent heat of vaporization
3. The latent heat of vaporization of water may be defined as, ‘The amount of heat energy required to change unit mass of water into vapour at boiling point of water under the atmospheric pressure without any change in the temperature.’
