Question

Why does water have a high boiling point compared to H2S?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

In water, O atom is highly electronegative as compared to S in H2S. This electronegative O, pulls the electrons from H so that O becomes partially negative and H becomes partially positive. So, this results in strong hydrogen bonding. Due to this, the boiling point of water is higher than that of H2S.
