Question

Why doesnt the wooden spoon become cold when it is dipped into ice-cream?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,
When a wooden spoon is dipped into ice cream, the spoon doesn't become cold, as wood is a bad conductor of heat, so there will be no flow of heat from one end of the wooden spoon, dipped into the ice cream, to the other end of the same spoon, hence no change in temperature, and the wooden spoon stays unaffected, that is, it doesn't become cold. Even if the part of a spoon dipped in the ice cream gets cold, as wood is a bad conductor of heat, so heat would not flow, and the other end will not become cold.
