Question

Why during electrolytic decomposition of water we get Hydrogen:Oxygen ratio as 2:1?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

Electrolytic decomposition reaction for water is, 2H2O 2H2 + O2
Now from the balanced reaction, we can see that there are 2 moles of hydrogen (H2) and 1 mole of oxygen (O2) produced.
Therefore it comes out to 2:1.

Regards.
