Question

Why electrolytic reduction is preferred for aluminium?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) is a stable compound because Aluminium (Al) has a strong attraction for Oxygen (O).
  2. It is resistant to common reducing agents such as Carbon (C), Carbon monoxide (CO), and Hydrogen (H).
  3. As a result, electrolytic reduction is the method of choice for reducing Alumina.
