Question

Why fresh water fish cannot survive in sea water

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The fishes of fresh water cannot survive in seawater because they are adapted for the hypotonic solution. If the freshwater fishes are put in a hypertonic solution such as sea water, they will not be able to regulate osmosis and water from inside their body would flow out into the highly saline water surrounding until they die of dehydration.
