Why gymnosperms are known as evergreen plants

Gymnosperms are known as evergreen plants because they do not shed their leaves. They shed only those leaves which are old and least productive. Leaves of gymnosperm remains with the plant for three to five years before they shed their leaves. Therefore they are evergreen.
