Question

Why heat is evolved during the reaction between hcl and sodium chloride

Open in App
Solution

1. It must be Sodium Hydroxide and not Sodium Chloride as there is no reaction between HCl and NaCl.

2. The reaction between HCl and NaOH is as shown:

HCl + NaOH H2O + NaCl + Heat

3. This heat evolved is due to the neutralisation reaction occurring between an acid and a base.
