A homologous series is a series of compounds have similar properties and the successive member differ by CH₂ group_. . there is an increase in physical properties in the homologous series but the chemical properties remain the same as they are determined by the functional group.
For ex., Alcohol
CH₃OH - methanol
CH₃CH₂OH - Ethanol

Here these two successive member differ by CH₂ group. They have same chemical properties due to OH functional group. But the physical properties show regular gradation.
