A homologous series is a series of compounds have similar properties and the successive member differ by CH2 group. . there is an increase in physical properties in the homologous series but the chemical properties remain the same as they are determined by the functional group.
For ex., Alcohol
CH3OH - methanol
CH3CH2OH - Ethanol
Here these two successive member differ by CH2 group. They have same chemical properties due to OH functional group. But the physical properties show regular gradation.
