Dear Student,
Calcium chloride is anhydrous in nature. It has large capacity to absorb gases and organic compounds like alkyl halide, hydrocarbons, aryl halides etc. Calcium chloride also absorb water molecule but its action of absorbing water molecule is very slow. So, it is mainly used as dehydrating agent for gases like hydrogen , carbon dioxide etc. In the preparation of water calcium chloride is used as dehydrating agent for the dehydration of hydrogen gas as it has strong ability to dry hydrogen gas. Moreover it is cost effective compound.
