Solution

DDT:

  1. DDT or dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane(DDT) is an insecticide that is used in agriculture.
  2. It is banned by the United States in 1972.

DDT is found in fish-eating birds:

  1. When DDT is sprayed in agricultural fields it enters the soil.
  2. From soil, it reaches the groundwater and when the agricultural waste is dumped into water bodies, DDT enters water resources.
  3. It is non-degradable because of its composition and so, it is absorbed by the fishes.
  4. The fishes pass on the DDT to the birds which prey on them.
  5. Eventually, the birds that occupy the highest trophic level suffer the most.
